Description
Cetinje, the old royal capital of Montenegro, a city is a treasure trove of Montenegrin cultural and historical heritage. It exudes 18th and 19th century architecture. Njegoš Mausoleum is located at the Jezerski Vrh mountaintop and dedicated to Petar the Second Petrović Njegoš. It was built according to the designs of the Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović, in place of the Njegoš Convent Church, which he had built during his lifetime, in honor of St. Petar of Cetinje, around 1845, with the desire to be buried in it, but that church was subsequently demolished.
